You aren’t a gorilla. Adult male mountain gorillas can consume up to 34 kg (75 pounds) of vegetation a day. They use the bacteria in their guts to turn that fiber into fat, and use the dead bacteria as protein. Our appendix is their cecum, a four-foot long appendix, which is filled with bacteria used to digest all that fiber.
